How to create interface and what is UI, UX, IxD and HCI?
June 18, 2016
It is said that the system can be the best in the world, but if it cannot present outputs to people in a reasonable format, it is literally useless. This also applies to computer systems and the virtual world in general. Many people don't even realize they are working with different types of interfaces daily. Not once, not twice, but constantly. So we should say what the interface is. It is an area connecting two separate units. Thus, it defines how the system is presented to its surroundings and how it communicates with it (it may be other services but also people). The interface that communicates with us has not created the computer itself, but someone has to design it. And how to optimize the interface is the science called HCI - Human Computer Interaction.
It is an interdisciplinary department because it uses a wide range of knowledge from different disciplines. From information and communication technologies to the field of physiology, art graphics and design. But we will be mainly interested in how a computer system communicates with a person. We need to realize the important thing. The possibilities of computer technology are developing at a huge pace, but the possibilities of a person who is on the other side of the interface is practically unchanged. And if someone would argue that the younger generation works naturally with modern technology, it is only because they grew up with it and it is just a habit. The physiological possibilities of man have certainly not changed. Over the last few years, we haven't learned to read faster, it still takes us time to memorize the picture and we hit other limits of our body. The truth is that we do record minor influences. For example, the percentage of people who are using a thumb, instead of forefinger to pushed a button to call the lift, has increased. And reason is the thumb is more trained by using cellphone.
We must focus on maximizing the effective use of the computer by man
Let's imagine some of the basic abbreviations in this issue. However, it is necessary to point out that we can often find different definitions, because they differ in different approaches.
IxD
Interaction Design - Such an approach to design focuses primarily on interfaces that are ambition to be highly interactive with the user. The main feature is the effort to create a strong "bond" between the user and the service that the interface represents. Such services are often multi-platform and, with a relationship that creates such an interface, motivates users to use other platforms.
UX
User eXperience - As the abbreviation suggests, it is an approach to creating an interface where we want to create a user experience. Give him a pleasant experience while using the service. It is also a superstructure above the UI, which is also an important part of the experience itself. If the interface does not meet the basic rules, we cannot achieve a positive experience. So we can look at UX not only from the point of view of how to optimize the interface as much as possible, but also how to create a user-friendly experience through our interface. For example, the gamification of the interface, i.e. inserting the game elements into the system, is associated with this.
UI
User Interface - It is probably the most general term of all mentioned. We consider the user interface, as a literal translation of the abbreviation, to be the sum of best practices in the issue of user interface design. There is no relationship building, marketing or other added value. It is a scientific view of what is natural to a person, what to choose the placement of elements, what is tedious for the brain and what in turn stimulates it or how to reduce the time required to perform the task. It has to be said that not all practices have arisen from scientific reasoning, but some have also arisen because of getting used to a control element that may not be the most appropriate, but so rooted among users that it has become a standard.
